Boil it for 1 minute <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">(time it), stirring regularly<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">and after 1 minute remove it from the heat and pour it into <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">the blender on top of the cheese mix. Blend until smooth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Moving quickly, as it will start setting very fast, pour the <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">mix out into a round dish sprayed with non-stick spray.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Refrigerate until set.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">To remove from the bowl, turn upside <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">down onto a plate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">NOTES<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">*It is crucial for the success of this recipe that you use <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">agar agar powder and not flakes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">*This might seem like a lot of salt, but it works perfectly <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">in this recipe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">*I used a regular round bowl, it was 5 inches round and <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">2 inches deep. I chose it because it was quite straight <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">up the sides so created a nicer shape for the cheese. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">But you can really use any bowl or ramekin, and if your <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">bowls are smaller, then just use 2 bowls for 2 smaller <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">blocks of cheese.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">*This cheese can be grated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">*I also put a slice on a cracker and put it in the microwave <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">for 15 seconds and it melted! So yes it does melt! This isn\u2019t <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">really what I would call the main use for this though, as I think <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">it tastes better as is, but yes it melts!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">*We have also now tried it on pizza! And it was fantastic! <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">We tried it both grated onto a pizza and sliced. Either way <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">was great. We put it on with all our other toppings before <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">going into the oven and it got nice and soft and melty along <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">with the other toppings. It doesn\u2019t spread or anything, but it\u2019s <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">very very good!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Most recipes recommend you cook it all ingredients on<br \/>\nthe stove with the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">agar agar, (gelatin powder that makes<br \/>\nit set), <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">\u00a0and then pour it out into your dish to set. But this <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">doesn\u2019t work at all when you use more cashews to make <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">a thicker, more robust, cheese because it\u2019s too thick <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">to<br \/>\nstir up properly with the agar agar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4078\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/coffee-grinder-300x287.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"287\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/coffee-grinder-300x287.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/coffee-grinder.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">And since the agar agar needs to boil for at least a minute <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">for that agar powder to set up properly I found it a much <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">better plan to do it separately.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">So basically, you make up a batch of cashew cheese sauce <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">in the blender, but you spice it up more strongly than you <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">would usually, to the point that if you taste it, you\u2019ll be thinking: <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">this is too strong!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">But then you boil up a cup of water with agar agar powder on <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">the stove, let that boil for a minute then pour that mix into your<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">cashew cheese sauce (conveniently still in the blender) blend <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">it up again and then pour it all out into your dish to set.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4049\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/my-provolone-cheese-pot-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/my-provolone-cheese-pot-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/my-provolone-cheese-pot-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/my-provolone-cheese-pot-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/my-provolone-cheese-pot-600x450.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/my-provolone-cheese-pot.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">The water and agar powder dilute the spiciness of the cheese <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">and while setting it also dilutes it a bit so you have to start off <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">strong to end up with perfectly spiced cashew cheese!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">And it is simply fabulous! You can slice it into perfect slices and <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">put them on crackers or bread or wherever you would eat a slice <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">of cheese.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">But you can mash it up too! It\u2019s sliceable and hard enough to cut <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">perfect slices, but you can also still smash it on a cracker if you <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">want to.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4123\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cheese-food-1666210-300x134.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cheese-food-1666210-300x134.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cheese-food-1666210-768x343.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cheese-food-1666210-1024x458.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cheese-food-1666210-600x268.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">It\u2019s perfect for a vegan cheese board with some red grapes, jams, <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">maybe some mixed salted nuts and a selection of crackers <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">(and maybe some wine too!).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">And let me just say, a slice of this on a cracker with some mixed <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">fruit jam on top was like the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">best thing ever!\u00a0 (but any jam would<br \/>\nbe awesome)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>TO SOAK OR NOT TO SOAK<\/strong>\u2026.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">This recipe is quick and easy and one of the things that makes<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">it so quick is that you don\u2019t need to soak the cashews first. You <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">can just go right in and blend them up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">The reason it\u2019s possible to do this is because you\u2019re making a <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">sauce to start off with, it\u2019s not a super thick cheese right off the <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">bat so it\u2019s more easily blendable<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">But lately I have been questioning the<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">\u00a0soaking cashews. In my<br \/>\nolder recipes I often just <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">did soak them because I thought they<br \/>\nwould be easier to blend, <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">but provided your blender is strong<br \/>\nenough I see no <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">reason to soak them first in this recipe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4124\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cheese-bread-batter-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cheese-bread-batter-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cheese-bread-batter-600x338.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.jmcutlery.com\/wiz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/cheese-bread-batter.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">But on the other hand I am not an expert on your blender. If you <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">know your blender will have trouble with this, then you can soak <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">them for one hour in boiling water. Just place the nuts into a bowl, <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">pour boiling water over the top and then leave them to soak for an <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">hour, then drain and use as normal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">THE AGAR AGAR<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">The crucial ingredient in this recipe is the agar agar powder. It is <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">what makes the cheese set.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>There are two types of agar agar<\/strong>, you get the powder version and the <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">flakes. Use agar agar powder. The agar agar powder is much stronger <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">than the flakes and is what we used in this recipe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">If you have no other option but to use flakes, then you will have to use <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">up to 3 times as much of it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>This cheese can also be grated,<\/strong> the firmer <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">it is the easier<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">it will grate, and the longer it\u2019s in the fridge <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">the firmer it gets,<br \/>\nso if it\u2019s not ideally firm for grating on <\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">the first day it will likely<br \/>\nbe grate-able by the second day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>Does it melt?<\/strong> I put a slice on a cracker and put it in the <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">microwave for 15-seconds to see if it melted and it did! <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">So it does melt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">We also tried it on pizza. And it was very tasty! But let <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">me be clear, when I say \u2018melt\u2019 I do NOT mean that it <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">spreads like dairy cheese. No it definitely doesn\u2019t. It <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">softens though and gets melty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">We tried it both grated on pizza and sliced, and either <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">way was fantastic.
